Christopher Wampler's comments on the grocery list programming:

This is my first web project where the sole purpose was strictly for design. Other projects I have participated in have had more strict design rules which are determined by the functionality of the site. For example e-commerce sites must allow easy navigation for the average user.

This site had a different objective: to force the functionality to work around the design. JavaScript offered a quick solution to this because it works better for the designer . It doesn't bring too much technology into her design. Other technologies would mutate the code (into jsp or asp) and make it too foreign for the designer. With JavaScript, she still sees her HTML as HTML.

This kind of work interests me as a developer because I believe we are still trying to find some fundamental design rules for the web. I believe such research is needed and would be beneficial to designers and developers in the future.
